Finding heaven in the Thames Valley

At last I enjoyed my day at the Danesfield. Lunch in the Orangerie(Morels and fresh garden pea risotto followed by the perfect lemon tart and early raspberries), then a leisurely afternoon in the spa. It’s amazing how an afternoon in the Zen room and ozone pool can clear your head….and I even got my obligatory 20 minutes in at the treadmill.

It may sound like I am on commission, but this place is truly restful. One of the big pluses are the underused gardens – which are now being restored. It is all very Brideshead/Atonement and was the location of the original Hellfire club meetings (which actually never met in the caves in West Wycombe). The view down towards Hambledon has to be one of the best in the country (and if you squint you can avoid the caravan park in the foreground).

Virtually everything about this place is perfect. For me, turn the temperature up a few degrees (or, may be lots right now), bag yourself a seat on the terrace, order a champagne cocktail, and you have the perfect English day, Heaven in the Thames Valley. Here’s the link.
